WebJun 13, 2011 · Our pharmacy has no information that this drug is compatible with D5W, Normal Saline, or any other typical IV solutions, therefore we must consider them to be incompatible. The drug is mixed in water. Patient's with central lines we will use a carrier solution and piggyback the Flagyl in it as to allow complete infusion of the Flagyl. WebMetronidazole also has Y-site compatibility with medications suspended in both NS and D5 so although best practice is to give it alone, certain situations may result in a risk versus benefit to give flagyl along with other medications. Those are my opinions, others please feel free to chime in and give your professional thoughts :).
